What is the name of your company?
Nashville Sales Training Academy
What does your business do?
We provide sales training, branding and marketing consultation for businesses and entrepreneurs who want to be #1 in their industry. We implement these strategies through on-site training, coaching and consulting with the executives, owners and employees.
We are truly in the people development business, helping them see new ways to invent, dream and execute ideas on a whole new level.
When and why did you start the biz?
I have a heart for the small business owner. They are so often caught up in the day to day activities that they don’t get access to great training and development like the big boys do. The better the small business owner succeeds, the better for the economy and people.
I have owned several small businesses so I understand the struggles and I have been blessed to work with and be mentored by great leaders like John Maxwell. The greatest gift you can do is teach a man to fish and that is what I get to do everyday.
How Many People are in your Company?
Myself, my wife and Petey the Cocker Spaniel (don’t underestimate his people skills – we could all learn a lot from him)
Where’s your office?
Donelson TN – but with technology today you could say I’m global
What’s the toughest part of running your biz?
Spelling…I am so bad the Microsoft paper clip comes out on the screen, looks at me, says “I have no idea how to help you” then goes back into the computer
What’s the most fun part?
Man, it’s all fun! I am living the dream! But the best part is for me is speaking to groups. I was born to inspire others to pursue their best ideas and when I get to speak in front of an audience that is when I am in my sweet spot of life.
Anything you would have done differently?
I would have started sooner and not been so cautious. You can lay out all the plans, but ultimately you have to be responsive to the marketplace. I spent several years trying to get everything right and then it all changed. Business is moving so fast these days, you just need to get into the river and flow with the current.
What’s next on the horizon for your biz?
WOW! We have some really big plans. I am launching my book, Personal Branding Mastery soon, and we have some really big projects in the works where we are helping some local entrepreneurs go to the next level in their business by helping them with their books and platforms. I am also planning several upcoming seminars as well as a local faith based business leaders networking group.
What advice do you have for others?
Go all in. Business is risky so don’t hold back. You have all the gifts and talents you need to be successful. Get around others who have paved the way and do not be afraid to invest money in yourself and your employees. Never stop learning and like my good friend John Maxwell says…sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.
What’s one thing you have learned from Nashpreneur.com or the events that has helped your biz?
There is so much, but the main thing I have really learned is go local. There is so much opportunity in our own backyard and you are leading the pack with the blueprint for success. I would call Nashprenuer the Success Magazine for Nashville Business.
Favorite Food?
Mexican, anytime anyplace! Want to “pick my brain”, buy me lunch at Chuy’s in Opry Mills.
What are your pets’ names if you have any?
Petey the cocker spaniel.
What is one business resource that you can say that has helped you grow your business (book, person, course, whatever)?
There really wasn’t just one. Is was a combination, but Tony Robbins Personal Power has a tremendous impact on me and my businessesJust one?
Is there any one person or event in your life that led you to go into business for yourself?
It had to be my background. I was raised by a single mom in the the projects. When I say we grew up poor, we grew up poor. Looking around and observing people who were making things happen made me say…why not me too?
Anyone you publicly want to thank?
My wife The Slim Down Diva herself Angie Davis. She supports me through all my failures and successes. I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
